SESAME SEEDS: Build Strong Bones, Help Sleep, Improve Digestion, Reduce Inflammation!

“SESAME SEEDS”

“Sesame seeds, often overlooked, build strong bones, protect against radiation, increase heart health, help sleep, improve digestion, reduce inflammation, boost respiratory health and detoxify the body. I use the seeds them in my fruit smoothie and sesame seed butter in my salad!”
Fred Bisci, Your Healthy Journey

Sesame seeds and sesame oil have phytoestrogen activity and powerful cholesterol-lowering effects. Sesame seeds rank highest in cholesterol-lowering phytosterols (Phytosterols are plant sterols structurally similar to cholesterol that act in the intestine to lower cholesterol absorption.)of nearly all nuts, seeds, legumes and grains.

Sesame seeds taken by healthy adults has shown positive effects on total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, LDL-to-HDL cholesterol ratios and antioxidant status. Sesame oil is considered an antihypertensive and can help normalize blood pressure levels, decrease lipid peroxidation and increase antioxidants.

Sesame seed ingestion has a healthy effect on blood lipids and antioxidant status in adult women that positively impacted sex hormones. Sesamin, a sesame lignan, was shown to be converted by intestinal microflora to enterolactone, a phytoestrogen compound with a healthy estrogen-like activity.

Sesame seeds are a rich source of mammalian lignan precursors, similar to whole flaxseeds. The mammalian lignans called enterolactone and enterodiol are produced by the microflora in the colon and may prevent abnormal cell formation.
Sesame seeds are beneficial to your metabolism and the body’s fat-burning abilities and support important liver mechanisms. They can increase burning fat by improving the activity of several liver enzymes that actually work to break down fatty acids.

Sesame seeds active ingredients are used by several fat-burning or bodybuilding supplements. However, of course, it’s always better to obtain benefits from the real whole food and skip the processed and potentially dangerous pills!

Sesame seeds essential fats/oils support antioxidant activity and help the absorption of vitamin E and other phytochemicals. Sesame seed fatty acids help absorb fat-soluble nutrients, including vitamin A, vitamin D and many types of antioxidants. Include sesame seeds, sesame oil or sesame butter with a nutrient-dense meal to help you absorb and use these nutrients.

FACTS: Raw Living Food & Cooked Food Lifestyles

FACTS: Are there any detrimental results from going back and forth between the raw living food and cooked food organic lifestyles?

Absolutely. I think that’s a disaster; I’ve seen this happen over and over again. I have seen people that were on a 100% raw living food lifestyle for three years or more and all of a sudden somebody convinced them to eat raw meat or go back to cooked animal protein and then they develop cancer. I’m absolutely positive that that’s where it came from. I’ve also seen other people get diabetes.

Once you go on a raw living food lifestyle or the vegan lifestyle for any length of time and you’re doing it correctly, your body actually changes on your cellular level. You become more efficient and you are less tolerant of processed food and especially concentrated proteins(ex: animal proteins).

That’s why I don’t recommend the optimal 100 percent raw living food lifestyle for everybody that comes to see me whether they could do it or not because I know some people are not ready to do it (reason: detoxification is more active, find more about this in Your Healthy Journey book). I wouldn’t want to see people do it for a year or two and go back because it’s not a good idea. A lot of people aren’t aware of that because they haven’t seen what the long-term effects are, I have in my practice. When people consult with me I question them extensively and I can see why and how they got themselves into trouble. Sometimes it’s the mechanics of the lifestyle and/or it can be how you’re facing it emotionally.

I don’t like to see people going back and forth especially from a 100 percent raw living food lifestyle to eating mostly cooked food. If you’re going back to some vegan foods that are cooked after you get through the initial adjustment (short timetables) you’re going to be okay, but I don’t like the idea of going back and forth to animal protein from a 100 percent raw living food lifestyle.  Even if you weren’t on a 100 percent raw lifestyle but it was 90 percent raw, I’ve still seen people get problems.

When people come to see me I just tell them that if you want to be a healthy person you have to make sure you’re eating plenty of raw whole plant foods, preferably 80 raw/20 cooked or 70 raw/30 cooked. If you can do a vegan lifestyle, great – if you can’t, eat a minimal-moderate amount of animal protein that’s clean, no hormones, no chemicals, no pesticides. This is what I suggest in my book, Your Healthy Journey. It is called the Intermediate Level Lifestyle.

If they’re willing to go to a 100 percent raw food lifestyle, great, I love that. Then you should be working with someone who understands and has the experience of detoxification associated with the 100% raw whole plant-based lifestyle. A lot of people that come to see me are not. So, they need to know this variable exists in the human body.  In the end, I make sure people know that I’m against going back and forth. Remember, the body likes variety and also likes consistency.

Almond milk is a delicious fresh, beverage, and an alternative to dairy!

“ALMONDS”

“Almond milk is a delicious fresh, beverage, and an alternative to dairy!”   Fred Bisci, Your Healthy Journey

Almonds have healthy monounsaturated fatty acids (the same kind of beneficial fat/oil found in olive oil) and antioxidants that help a healthy heart and supportive factors for the cardiovascular system. Almonds specifically supply antioxidant flavonoids, plant-based compounds present in the skin of almonds that work with vitamin E to improve artery health and reduce inflammation.

Almonds key nutrients for heart health, including arginine, magnesium, copper, manganese, calcium and potassium. Almonds have a consistent “bad” LDL cholesterol-lowering effect, especially in individuals with high cholesterol.

Almonds help prevent damage from forming within artery walls and protect against dangerous plaque buildup. Almonds nourishment also supports healthy cholesterol and blood pressure levels, in addition to fighting weight gain and obesity.

Almonds are considered a brain food. Almonds nutrition is unique in that almonds contain riboflavin and L-carnitine, two key nutrients capable of positively affecting neurological activity and preventing cognitive decline and are associated with a reduction in the risk for inflammation in the brain.

Almonds have vitamin E and other antioxidants that nourish the skin and reduce signs of aging. Almonds nutrition contains high concentrations of catechin, epicatechin and flavonol antioxidants, including quercetin, kaempferol and isorhamnetin — compounds that support health skin cells and help reverse oxidative stress from a poor diet, pollution and UV light exposure. Almonds healthy fats have the ability to improve circulation to keep skin hydrated and better able to heal wounds.

Almonds; even though they have essential fats/oils they prolong the feeling of satisfaction after you eat and keep your blood sugar more stable than low-fat processed meals. Thus, you’re less likely to experience a roller-coaster of energy dips and food cravings. Almonds support a healthy metabolism and people who frequently eat almonds and other nuts retain healthier body weights and lower rates of obesity over time compared to those who avoid nuts.

Almonds are also considered one of the only nuts that help alkalize the digestive tract, reducing acid buildup and balancing the body’s pH. A healthy pH level is crucial for proper digestion, immunity and health prevention. The nutrients present in almonds may help regulate digestive enzymes that are involved in nutrient extraction, cholesterol synthesis and bile acid production.

Facts: Achieving more Energy, Endurance, Youth & Vitality

Facts: How can you achieve more energy, endurance, youth and vitality?

How you do that is to detoxify your body, especially your upper GI tract.  That’s what enables us to breathe on a cellular level.  When you’re breathing on a cellular level you have a good oxygen uptake and you become more efficient. Everything’s going to work better, especially your stamina and dynamism.

We are supposed to have between four and eight pounds of intestinal flora.  If you don’t have the intestinal flora, (Probiotics) you’re going to have gas, inflammation and a decreased bowel function and movement. Your immune system will have a harder time protecting you against viral and bacterial pathogens which will become activated and proliferate in your system. We need to get probiotics and prebiotics (Plant-based whole foods) for nourishment into our lifestyle. Plant-based Inulin’s come from the fiber in your vegetables and glucosaccharides are the prebiotics that come in your fruit which are critically important.

A lot of times when a person first starts to eat well they’re not going to feel good as we all know (Get & read “Your Healthy Journey” to understand the mechanics). They have bloat, inflammation and gas. This could be because the food that they’re eating could be too efficient. It’s releasing too much endogenous material (Detox) and they don’t have the intestinal flora (Probiotics) so then the system has to deal with it.  That’s when they may need colonics. Of course, you they need more rest. Rest is critically important!

If you don’t know what to do and you think your nutritional lifestyle is okay (To be sure what your doing is okay, write down how you nourish yourself for 3 days and match it up to “Your Healthy Journey”) and you’re not feeling good, go lay down and close your eyes.  Remember simplicity. Don’t drink a cup of coffee or take some kind of stimulating herb or consume some drink that’s going to give you a lot of energy in 15 minutes because all it’s doing is pumping out adrenaline, working through your endocrine system and exhausting your adrenal and thyroid glands. These glands will eventually wear down because of this ongoing process. What you require is rest.  If you’re exhausted and you don’t know why and the doctor says everything looks good, just lay down, drink more water, and drink fresh vegetable juices, Ciara’s kombucha, Herbal tea without caffeine, E3 live, wheatgrass and add some Fred’s Amazing Greens or other Fred green powder foods.

Kidney beans can improve your heart, weight and muscle mass

“KIDNEY BEANS”

“Kidney beans can improve your heart, weight and muscle mass!”      Fred Bisci, Your Healthy Journey

Kidney beans have manganese which can act as an antioxidant defense. This helps to reduce free radicals in mitochondria at the cellular level. Kidney beans contain vitamin K which protects your cells from oxidative stress and may prevent abnormal cell formation.

Kidney beans contain thiamine that is required by the brain cells for cognitive function. This helps to create acetylcholine for memory. Also, the myelin sheath requires sphingo-lipids for proper formation. This comes from the aid of vitamin K found in kidney beans which helps in the synthesis of sphingo-lipids that aids a healthy brain and nervous system function.

Kidney beans contain soluble fiber that helps to decrease the metabolism rate of carbohydrates. This can prevent blood sugar levels from hiking after a meal. Kidney beans are a good source of protein.

Kidney beans have insoluble fiber that is useful to regularize the bowel movements and increase stool. This helps in the fermentation of whole plant-based fiber in our large intestine and maintains good bacteria in the digestive tract. Healthy bowel movements may help prevent abnormal cell formation.

Kidney beans high fiber content can lower the cholesterol level. The folate in kidney beans can lower the levels of homocysteine that supports heart function. They also contain magnesium that aids the cardiovascular system.

Kidney beans can help you eat less while keeping the feeling of nourishment longer. This would help decrease overeating because you reach satiety without consuming too much food. High-fiber foods like kidney beans also tend to take longer to eat and are energy dense which means they have fewer calories for the same volume of food.

Kidney beans are a good source of the trace mineral, manganese which is an essential co-factor in a number of enzymes important in energy production and antioxidant defenses. The key oxidative enzyme, superoxide dismutase, which disarms free radicals produced within the mitochondria (the energy production factories within our cells), requires manganese.

Facts: Brain Function & Prevention

Facts: Brain Function & Prevention

What changes can help prevent disease and maintain health?

Okay, I’ll go over that again. Give up all the processed food, and get enough exercise. You don’t have to be an Olympic weight lifter or a marathon runner.  I believe somebody can get enough exercise in just 20-30 minutes every day, just doing a mix of stretching and resistance exercises and aerobic exercise.

The human body lives by natural law. In order to live a long and high quality life you’ve got to use your body and not abuse it. Eat clean food in its highest biological form, meditate, pray, whatever you have to do to maintain a tranquil state of mind.  Don’t be discouraged; don’t pay attention to the news media with all their disasters; be selective about what you watch on television because of lot of this stuff is so negative it’s depressing at times.

Challenge yourself.  Don’t settle for mediocrity; strive to be the most that you possibly can.

What is the best way to achieve healthy brain function?

More people have dementia now than ever before.  Alzheimer’s disease is also more prevalent now. Of course, the best way to maintain healthy brain function is to follow a healthy life style; live according to natural law, get enough rest.  Stress can destroy your brain function and impair your short-term memory.

Eat a good nourishing plant-based lifestyle, chew each mouthful of food and don’t overeat.  When you are on raw living food lifestyle, done correctly, you’re actually following a calorically restricted diet which is really the way to go.  Now it might not give you 18-inch arms and it might not enable you to run in a 50-mile race, but how important really is that except to satisfy our egos? I’ve done things like that, and I look back now and I have to laugh at how ridiculous it really was to put myself through that training.
