Is endurance and cross training doable?

Is endurance and cross training doable while achieving all your normal daily activities without burn out? Yes, but you have to train smart, be consistent and live a high quality life. Get enough calories to meet the activity, by not over or under doing. This is a big key. You have to be able to recognize that in your body, without reaching to external stimulation. This will drive you to burn out. Fred has found that when you lead a high quality lifestyle of Your Healthy Journey, you will always be able to finish strong!

“At that point in my life I was already married with children, a full time father and had two careers in my life besides my nutritional practice. I had to find a way to train smart without spending too much time working out all the time.”

“During my first couple of marathons I ran I was still not getting enough calories, I thought I was but I wasn’t.”

z normal daily activities burn out 6
Without stimulation burn out!
z normal daily activities burn out 3
Consume enough calories!

But when I started to get enough calories I started to fly through the marathons. I also did some cross training. I used to ride my bike and I had a friend, a young guy, who could have been my oldest grandchild, who always wanted to go for a bike ride. At that time, I didn’t ride that much but one day he asked me to take a bike ride. I was not a kid but he showed no mercy. We biked from the Staten Island, NY. to Flemington, NJ. which was 90 miles round trip and it was 90 degrees that day. I wasn’t really training at that level but I was feeling real good and I finished strong!!”

Cabbage is a Mouthful!!

“Cabbage is a wonderful vegetable. Cabbage helps with the prevention of premature aging, reducing the chances of abnormal cell growth, improves the health of the skin and eyes, aids in weight loss, boosts the immune system, helps build stronger bones, detoxifies the body, improves circulation and slows down the onset of degenerative neurological conditions. Wow!!” Fred

Cabbage can be consumed: raw or fermented in a salad, steamed or as an ingredient in a fresh vegetable juice.

Cabbage has an abundant source of Vitamin C and is higher in vitamin C than oranges and other related fruits. Cabbage’s Vitamin C helps reduce free radicals which are one of the fundamental causes of premature aging. Cabbage helps in repairing the wear and tear on the cellular tissues. It can also speed up the healing process for wounds and damaged tissues: especially in the stomach and intestines.

Cabbage is very rich in fiber which helps the body retain water while it maintains the bulkiness of food as it moves through the bowels (small and large intestines). Fiber is important for the maintenance of personal health and athletic performance and the lack there of is a root cause of most inflammation associated with skin conditions, premature aging and many mild to serious conditions. Cabbage supports good digestive function.

Cabbage is loaded with sulphur which helps fight microbial infections in wounds and reduces the frequency and severity of ulcers while it aids in the healing of damaged cellular tissue.

Cabbage is rich in iodine which helps in proper functioning of the brain and the nervous system.

Cabbage is a detoxifier that helps purify the blood and removes toxins, primarily free radicals and uric acids which are one of the primary causes of inflammation, arthritis and kidney dysfunction and skin problems.

Cabbage can be eaten as a raw fermented ingredient which brings out the whole natural sugars and helps reduce muscle soreness and muscular aches.

Cabbage has a number of compounds, like lupeol, sinigrin, and sulforaphane, which are known to stimulate enzyme activity and inhibit the growth of abnormal cells.

Cabbage has bio-available cadmium-binding complexes in its leaves and one of the main component complexes is glutamine which is a strong anti-inflammatory agent which effects of many types of inflammation, irritations, joint pain and various skin disorders.

Cabbage is a rich source of beta-carotene which is helpful with prevention and generally promoting good eye health. Cabbage’s beta-carotene helps reduce the chances of abnormal cell growth in the prostate which is another one of the many anti-carcinogenic effects of cabbage.

Cabbage is recommended if you want to maintain or find your ideal body weight. Cabbage is packed with many beneficial vitamins, minerals, and other nutrients, it is a healthy lifestyle option, quite filling, low in calories, with high levels of fiber, which adds bulk to the bowels.

Cabbage is a brain food. Cabbage has the presence of Vitamin K and anthocyanins which gives a strong boost to mental function and concentration. Cabbage’s Vitamin K is essential in the production of sphingolipids, the myelin sheath around nerves. This wrapping is what protects nerves from damage and decay and can improve your defense against neural degeneration.

Cabbages are great sources of minerals, like calcium, magnesium, and potassium. These three essential minerals are integral in the protection of bones from degradation and the onset of general nutrient bone weakening.

Cabbage has potassium which helps decrease elevated blood pressure through vasodilation by opening up the blood vessels and easing the flow of blood which reduces the stress to the arteries and veins.

Cabbage has many different antioxidant sources, including vitamin-C, anthocyanins and sulphur which plays a role fighting free radicals in skin health and the general toning and improvement in response to the aging process. Free radicals can be an underlying cause of wrinkles, skin discoloration, spots, and many other skin conditions. Eating cabbage helps reduce the aging processes, leaving you feeling and looking healthy and young.

“The Cooling Within, The Mighty Cucumber”

“The cucumber is a natural cooler and a great way to prevent dehydration and overheating during athletic events.”

Cucumbers help fight inflammation and contain polyphenol compounds that can naturally slow the aging process caused by oxidative stress.

Cucumbers have flavonoids and tannins that support free radical scavenging and analgesic effects.

Cucumber compounds include: cucurbitacins, glucosides, lignans, apigenin and Fisetin. These are known to protect DNA and cells from damage due to oxidative stress. Fisetin is specifically tied to brain health and preservation of cognitive function.

Cucumbers are a high water-pump plant food, with vitamins/minerals and are low in calories.

Cucumbers add volume to meals without weighing you down and can help quench thirst and prevent the desire to snack due to dehydration.

Cucumbers support the digestive tract which can help with cleansing the liver, by supporting removal of toxins and waste materials from the blood and gut.

Cucumbers are a natural diuretic food which helps produce more urine to carry out toxins and waste.

Cucumbers 2

Cucumber juice (freshly-prepared) has been used to naturally nourish damaged, dry or sensitive skin. Cucumber slices applied directly to the skin gives a soothing and cooling effect against skin irritations and reduces swelling and redness. Cucumbers can also help relax and alleviate pain, and swelling following sunburn.

Cucumber lignans are immune-boosting and have anti-inflammatory effects that are beneficial to the cardiovascular health. Cucumber has been associated with a lowering effect of C-reactive protein levels and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol, and improved blood pressure levels.

Cucumbers also provide important minerals that help maintain a healthy heart, including potassium and magnesium. Potassium is linked to healthier blood pressure levels since it helps control fluids in the body. Magnesium is helpful for blood pressure in addition to general nerve functioning, heartbeat regulation, fluid balance, better blood sugar stability and higher energy expenditure. Cucumber’s source of magnesium and other electrolytes can also help hydrate the gut and digestive lining, which supports a more regular bowel movement.

Cucumber is an alkaline food that helps balance the body’s pH level. Balanced pH can help decrease leptin levels, the main hormone connected to hunger and appetite control, as well as inflammation.

Since the body is able to easily digest nutrients in liquid form, this is one reason why cucumbers are a popular ingredient in green alkalizing juices. Cucumbers are good for juicing or making smoothies.

Cucumbers are high in vitamin K and a good way to help maintain bone mineral density. Vitamin K is a fat-soluble vitamin that works with other essential nutrients like calcium and magnesium to preserve strong bones. Vitamin K also supports a healthy metabolism, nutrient absorption, aids in heart health, helps with blood clotting, supports neurological function.

Degenerative Inflammatory Conditions & Long-Term Health

Long-Term Health is Done Daily:

Degenerative inflammatory conditions  generally comes from living the excessive routine mechanics of poor quality nourishment, smoking, drinking alcohol and coffee, not getting enough rest, recreational drugs and/or pharmaceutical drugs that over-prescribed chronically and of course processed food; this is a declining approach to aging.

Is it worth looking at your life and making the daily lifetime changes for quality longevity?

For the ongoing athlete, I have seen for years, people running tremendously long distances or lifting heavy weights that are fueling themselves with poor quality nourishment, that is not optimal. Although a person may think it is working for them, the body is just responding to anything you do through homeostasis (The ability of a cell to maintain internal equilibrium by adjusting its physiological processes to maintain bodily equilibrium). If this not done correctly you will be an aging athlete with free radical damage which will increase you probability of degeneration and continual inflammation.

There are people who are into body building and weight lifting and are able to put a incredible amount of weight over their head or do heavy bench presses. They’re huge and they’re eating five or six meals a day with lots of animal protein. They think they’re on a perfect diet because this approach is producing what they’re looking for strength; but is it going to produce long-term optimal health?

Do we need to look at what’s really optimal in life.

Today’s overweight youth have a bigger risk and a greater epigenetics (daily behaviors, routines and habits effects your gene switches) expression of developing degenerative inflammatory conditions than their parents. There is so much over-stimulation from everything in our culture that many people are over compensating. Combine this with the social and internet stresses and people will eat more and more junk food which leaves no room for enough fruits and vegetables.

I was shocked the other day when a young person told me they didn’t know what celery looked like and what Brussels Sprouts were and they had never eaten any fruit; that’s amazing to me.

What are people doing to ourselves and how can they become more aware?

Let’s wake up and understand that there is a way decrease our inflammatory patterns by applying the assume benefits of the plant kingdom, we all need to eat fresh fruits and vegetables every day no matter what!

“The Power within, Cherries are Harvesting Soon”

“Cherries are excellent for endurance, obstacle athletes because it nourishes cellular production of energy in the Krebs cycle”

We love cherries in America. The United States are the biggest producer, user and exporter of cherries in the world. The Bing cherry is the tastiest, firmest, meatiest and largest cherry grown and is considered a fleshy and succulent drupe enclosing a single seed within (stone fruit).

Cherries have their own mineral/vitamin storehouse: calcium, phosphorus, iron, sodium, potassium, vitamin A, B-Complex vitamins and vitamin C.

The compounds found in cherries can influence numerous biochemical pathways. The compounds can turn the epigenetic switches off and on to protect against degenerative situations associated with inflammation.

The powerhouse flavonoid nutrients of cherries are responsible for their deep colors and deliver substantial antioxidant and anti-inflammatory activity which slows down the aging process.

We all want to live a long and vital Life!!

The range of activity for the bio-active compounds found in tart cherries beneficially inhibit certain degenerative enzymes while boosting and revitalizing others, switch-on immune system defenses, down-regulate glucose and enhances primary antioxidants.

Any high-intensity or prolonged physical activity of any kind typically causes muscle damage, resulting in oxidative stress, inflammation and pain. Tart cherries significantly lowered inflammation-induced pain from exercise-induced muscle damage following intense exercise and provide natural protection against acute muscle soreness.

Win/Win for all Athletic Activities!!

In a double-blind, randomized trial, runners participated in a 24-hour relay race. They drank two 12 oz. juices daily for one week prior to the race and during the race. These runners experienced a substantially smaller pain increase after the race. Scientists also conducted a second controlled trial on muscle recovery. Participants drink five days before, on the day of, and for two days after a marathon race. They had significantly lower inflammation bio-markers (Interleukin-6 and C-reactive protein). They also recovered isometric strength faster and demonstrated an accelerated recovery following this strenuous exercise.

Eating/Drinking cherries is very beneficial!!

Cherry Juice

Drinking tart cherry juice:

– is a natural detoxifier for the skin to help flush out poor quality acids from the system by invigorating activities in the kidneys, bladder and colon.

–  helped increase levels of melatonin, the hormone that helps regulate the sleep-wake cycle, indicating that drinking this juice boosts the body’s melatonin levels which may explain how tart cherry juice helps with sleep and the body’s circadian rhythms.

–  can help relieve pain and inflammation of muscles and joints and arthritis.

–  appears to be a natural and safe way to inhibit the key gout and rheumatism pathways. Boston University found that cherries reduced the risk of gout attacks in those who suffered recurrent gout attacks by 45%.

– is a potent tool for inhibiting the chronic, often obesity-related, low-level inflammation. Researchers demonstrated that obese or overweight human adults who consumed 8 ounces daily of tart cherry juice for 4 weeks exhibited significantly lowered inflammation. Evidence showed marked decreases in erythrocyte sedimentation rate, tumor necrosis factor levels, and monocyte chemotactic protein—all key indicators of inflammation.

–  improved multiple cardiovascular risk factors. These included a reduction in cholesterol, body fat, weight, and abdominal fat. They also calmed inflammation at sites in the belly and heart.

–  can switch off genes involved in the multiple degenerative pathways of abnormal cell proliferation and inflammation.

– has a systemic effect on the whole body so it will improve your mind and give you clearer thoughts to make good decisions.

Cherries are good for you, Enjoy!!
